The Culpeper Football Association has been offering recreational Tackle Football since the League was established in 2004 and our program remains competitive today. The CFA is excited to offer the opportunity to play to all boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 years old. We welcome participants from Culpeper and all surrounding Counties.
Divisions:
We have four (4) divisions that allow participants to step their way from learning the fundamentals to playing competitive ball and possibly transitioning to the local Middle School football programs. In the Fall season we offer: Anklebiters 5-6, Mighty Mites 7-8, Midget 9-10, and Bandit 11-13.
Basic Information:
Games: All CFA games are held at the Culpeper Sports Complex, usually on Saturdays. However, the CFA tries to ensure every team plays 8 games and depending on weather and the overall schedule there are times that games will be played on Weekdays and/or Sundays. Weekend game times can vary but should never start before 9am or end after 9pm. Weeknight games usually start and finish between 6pm and 9pm. Additionally, if the CFA agrees to participate in games with other Leagues, it is possible there will be away games - within a 30-45 minute drive.
Game Length: Mighty Mite, Midget, and Bandit games usually last 2 hours whereas Anklebiter games are 60 minutes. Mighty Mite and Midget have 8 minute quarters and Bandit has 10 minute quarters.
Location: The CFA is fortunate to have use of the Culpeper Sports Complex, an amazing venue for youth sports. There are 3 football fields (7, 8, 9) that all have scoreboards and as of the 2022 Fall Season we also have LIGHTS.
Practice: Practices are held in various locations. Often at the Complex or at many of the County schools. Once the player is drafted, the coaches will reach out and provide this information. Practices start about 2 weeks prior to the start of school. Anklebiter practices are limited to 1.5 hours and all other divisions are limited to 2 hours. Practice schedules, prior to school starting, allow for Anklebiters 3 days/week and all other divisions 5 days/week. After school begins, Anklebiters and Mighty Mite are permitted to practice 2x a week; Midgets and Bandits can practice 3x week. Practices are limited to only 1 on each scheduled practice day. No practice will be held the day prior to the first day of school or on Sundays. Practices can be held at CFA approved sites ONLY.
Equipment: Each player will be issued a helmet, chin strap, shoulder pads, practice pants, game pants, practice jersey, game jersey, and game socks. Cleats and mouth guards are not provided. All issued equipment must be returned at the end of the season or there will be a fee to replace it.
Dress Code: No necklaces, bracelets, earrings, long nails, durags or bandanas may be worn at practice or games.
Draft: The CFA uses a draft to assign participants to teams. During the summer, there will be several player evaluation events. All participants that are new to the League or moving up a division should tryout. All participants that are remaining in the same Division will be re-assigned to their team from the previous season. While the evaluations events are NOT required, a participant that does not attend will be a "Hat Pick" in the draft. Siblings playing in the same division will be assigned to the same team.
Middle School: All participants that plan to try out for Middle School ball are welcome to register with our Bandit Division. If the participant makes the Middle School team, their registration will be refunded in full.
Participation: Each Anklebiter, Mighty Mite and Midget player shall participate in at least 8 plays per half, except for a coach or parental disciplinary action, whereas each Bandit player shall participate in 10 plays. Play sheets are to be used to log the number of plays per player and will be turned in by each team at the end of the game to the Field Manager.
Player Conduct: If the field manager or official witnesses an act of unsportsmanlike conduct, the game will be stopped, and the player may be ejected from the game. The decision is made at the referee's discretion and no appeals will be considered. Foul play will NOT be tolerated. Offensive or confrontational language is illegal, and the officials have the right to determine what is or is not offensive language. If it occurs, the referee will give one warning, if it continues the player or players will be ejected from the game.
